Rebels match report

The Rebels came into this match, on the back of 3 wins and 3 clean sheets. Our previous games against Rainworth have always been close and so we were expecting a tough game.
Rainworth started well and were making the Rebels defence work hard to keep them away from the goal, but as usual, they stood firm. The Rebels eventually got going and after 15 mins, Freya G was on hand to prod home a loose ball in the box to make it 1-0. Shortly afterwards, after winning the ball in the box, Freya G took the ball wide, before crossing back in and Sarah arrived perfectly to side foot past the keeper. There was plenty of play around the Rainworth goal following this, but no further goals before half time.
The second half started with the Rebels playing more brightly and playing more as a team, but they could not find their way past an excellent Rainworth keeper. Eventually, following a shot from Brooke, the ball fell to Lauren, who side footed in for her first goal of the season.
Then came the goal of the game, as Sarah picked the ball up midway inside the Rainworth half, ran through and round the Rainworth defence and finding herself one on one with the keeper, hit a low shot into the corner of the net. This actually brought out a celebration from Sarah, as even she knew what a good goal it was.
More saves followed by the Rainworth keeper as the Rebels piled on the pressure and from another shot from Brooke that was pushed out by the keeper, Lily ran in and hammered the ball into the roof of the net, for her first goal of the season.
As the game drew to a close, Rainworth found a second wind and with 2 minutes left, a shot from the edge of the area had their coach celebrating a goal, but a brilliant fingertip save from Issy, tipped it round the post, to keep the goals against tally at zero.
A brilliant team performance from the Rebels, Player of the Match went to Sarah
