Injury updates

Posted by Richard Povey on 30 June 2016

We caught up with injured players Laura Coulthard and Lottie Swinscoe to see how they were getting on after their injuries.

Hi Ladies, thank you for agreeing to share your injury experiences. Firstly, what injury have you got?

Laura:- I've ruptured my Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and torn my Meniscus during the game against Bedworth at Eagle Valley.

Lottie:- I've torn my ACL which is the crucial ligament in the knee. I have also torn my MCL and sprained my knee. I did it playing in the Arnold tournament, I wasn't tackled I just twisted funny when trying to go past a player and my knee just popped.

What treatment have you had or having?

Laura - I have had to have 2 operations but had to wait two months between them.

Lottie - I have been in a brace and on crutches. I'm also on medication to keep the pain down. I'm due to have an operation on the 8th of July where the surgeon will be taking tissue from my hamstring and using it to connect my ligaments back together in my knee.

How is it now and what does the rehabilitation involve?

Laura - I started physio 2 weeks after the reconstruction. At first I was going 3 times a week but now it's twice a week. I was told last week I could jog but after doing so had a bad reaction in my hamstring (which was where they took the ACL graft from). So now I'm just going on the gym bike and walking. Hopefully I will be back jogging soon though. They have given me more of a timeline now. Hopefully be back in light training in December and if all goes well be back playing in February. I haven't kicked a ball since October so it's safe to say I can't wait to get back to it. And to be around the girls again.

Lottie - I will have to rest for 2 weeks after the operation and then start my physiotherapy sessions 3 times a week. This involves swimming, muscle extensions and riding a bike. I will be given daily exercises so I can strengthen the muscles in my quads and other areas in my body.

Thank you again ladies for your time. It goes without saying that everyone at the club wish you well in your recovery and will do what ever we can to help get you both back where you belong, playing football for Arnold Town Ladies.
