The flyers travelled down to Grantham this week to play their second league game of the season on a 3g surface.
A positive start saw Caitlin hit the back of the net with her first goal of the season 8 minutes into the game with a nicely timed through ball from right winger Jasmine for Caitlin to run onto and make her way around a Grantham defender and finish past the goalkeeper.
A slight lack in concentration cost the flyers as Grantham hit back with a goal 2 minutes after, with them winning the ball from the midfield for a ball over the top to put them one on one with the keeper to make the score 1-1.
The flyers remained a good shape and were applying lots of pressure forward to try and retake the lead. A long range shot from midfielder Shannon wa deflected and got the flyers the first corner of the game.
The corner was defended well and won back by Caitlin in the box for her to get her shot off and get her second goal of the game 26 minutes gone with the score now 2-1, Game on!!
Right back Elysha unfortunately rolled her ankle and suffered some ligament damage making our first changes of the game for Alicia to slot in at right back and bring striker on cat for a straight swap with shanie Oliver.
Cat immediately shown she was hungry for goals with her fast pace chasing up endless balls coming through and over for her and she fired her first goal into the bottom left hand side 30 minutes into the game with a nicely timed through ball from striker partner Caitlin.
The team are now becoming more settled and the link between the defence and midfield are showing lots of control and possession of the ball, moving it around well on the surface finding feet in and around the opposition. Midfielder Shannon shows good awareness as she takes a look up after a good string of passes and played a ball though for cat to run onto one on one with the goal keeper for her to get her second goal of the game 40 minutes in making the score 4-1.
Emily Martin then made way for player/manager Selina on the left hand side of the midfield, after a slight knock. The half time whistle blows and the flyers go in at half time with lots of positives to go over with coach Theo Brown.
Second half gets underway and With the defence showing a good strong line they instantly win the ball back from kick off and work it through to the midfield for Danielle to receive a pass and has the confidence to go on a run through the Grantham midfield and towards the defence, she then lays off a ball back to striker cat to hit first time finishing top corner to give the flyers the first goal of the second half and cat a nice hatrick.
Grantham battled well and played some good balls over the top, but the defence stood strong and dealt with them well, working well with goalkeeper Jess Shelton. 72 minutes into the game left back jess Adcock composed her self after receiving a ball over the top to see a run from Jasmine on the right wing and picked out a delightful switched pass, jasmine got her first touch spot on to set herself up well to hit a long range shot finding the bottom right corner.A rocket of a shot and a brilliant assist.
Striker cat went on to add two more goals to her tally with a 75th minute pass to her from the left hand side of midfield with Cat running through the defence again hitting her shot hard and low to find the right hand side of the goal and her 5th goal of the game fell nicely to her on the edge of the box to hit first time beating the keeper to the top left hand side of the goal.
The flyers continued with the pressure after another shot from Cat hitting the cross bar and the ball going behind for a goal kick. Midfielders Dani and Shannon linked up well to win the ball back and Shannon then played a great pass through to Caitlin for her to control well and slot away into the left hand side of the goal for her 3rd goal of the game and hatrick to match stiker partner cat.
Final score 9-1.
