First Team Vs Sherwood

Arnold Eagles 1st team made it 4 league wins from their opening 4 league fixtures, after a comfortable 4-2 victory over Sherwood Women at Calverton this afternoon.
We set up in the normal way, Ciára came back in net, Holly returned into the back three after injury and Courtney was dragged out of retirement once again to partner Tasha up front.
Despite being a little short of form in recent weeks, today our ladies produced as dominant a 1st half performance as we have seen so far this season.
We were solid at the back, completely dominated the midfield and looked a constant threat when we attacked.
This fantastic 1st half performance resulted in us going into the half time break deservedly 3 goals to the good. The goals coming from Courtney (following up after an initial shot was saved), Hannah D (a brilliant long range curling effort) and, Mollie (hitting the open net from an acute angle from out wide).
Could we keep up the same level in the 2nd half?
The simple answer is ‘No’ but credit to Sherwood who came out ready to fight and make a game of the match.
Our visitors got on the board when a deflected cross caused havoc in the Eagles box and was tapped in from close range, and then after a poor defensive clearance a long range effort was dispatched into the top corner.
The nerves were now jangling and we needed the breathing room, supplied by a nicely put away penalty from Tasha after she was cynically brought down in the box.
We saw out the remainder of the game and deservedly collected another 3 points and on another day, might have won the game more convincingly.
Special mentions today go to Courtney Walters for stepping in and proving what a class act she is and scoring the all important first goal and the back three of Fiona, Chloe and Holly who’s defensive work, composure and distribution was superb and despite a couple of lapses would have celebrated the clean sheet their performances deserved.
Player of the Match went to captain Demi-Leigh Crofts, who bossed the game from the middle of midfield.
