First Team Through To 2nd Preliminary Round Of The FA Cup

The Eagles 1st team progressed to the 2nd Qualifying Round of the Women’s F.A. Cup this afternoon, as a result of an away victory at our hosts Sleaford United Ladies.
Despite only being established a matter of months ago during the summer, Sleaford United jumped straight into the premier knockout competition within the women’s game, which is becoming increasingly important to grassroots teams across the country.
On arrival at Scredington Playing Fields, both teams were greeted to barmy temperatures not becoming this time of year.
Our ladies were bemoaning their long sleeved playing shirts as they prepared for what seemed would be a hot, sweaty afternoon.
Little did we all know, that no more than an hour later all the spectators would be ditching their picnic blankets and fold up chairs to take refuge from an unbelievable downpour under the trees.🙄
Luckily despite the rain, thunder and lightning the referee and her officials adjudged it was safe to complete the tie as the storm passed through.
So, our Eagles ladies managed to progress - even if it meant travelling back to Nottingham with wet clothes.😂
We will play Skegness Town at home on Sunday the 1st of October, for a place in the 3rd Qualifying Round next month.
Finally, a special mention to our hosts today. Sleaford United, despite being newly formed, have a great group of ladies who not only gave a spirited performance in difficult conditions but also showed a class attitude both on and off the pitch throughout our visit.
We wish them all the best in their first season together as a team within the Lincolnshire County League and we are sure they will continue to thrive as a squad and a club.👌
Player of the Match went to Lydia Stewart, for an accomplished performance and she topped it off with her first goal for the club on her full debut!
