Cups downs and ups

Arnold Eagles had 6 representatives with 3 progressing to Finals and 3 bowing out. All six ties were exciting in different ways and there were a few very close games which needed extra time and or penalties to decide the winners.

The U15s took part in an exhilarating plate semi-final against Ravenshead Reds U15s on Sunday.

A tightly contested match looked destined to end 2-0 ( goals from Rosch and Maddie) to The Eagles when Ravenshead scored a consolation minutes from full time.  A contentious penalty awarded to them  seconds from the end enabled Ravenshead to take the game into extra time with their tails up.

Shell shocked Arnold Eagles then went behind in the first half of extra time to a well worked counter attack from Ravenshead who were kept at bay through some last ditch defending and incredible goalkeeping by Ella.

With the game heading to a 3-2 extra time home win, Eagles were awarded a free kick. Once again Maddie stepped up to hit a high drive that left the opposing goalie helpless.

Penalties then ensued. After a nail biting 5 penalties each, the score was 3-3. ( successful penalties by Maddie, Katie and Grace). Millie then kept Eagles in sudden death with a postage stamp finish before Ella pulled off another stunning full stretch save.

The stage was set for Ava who calmly finished off a frenetic morning to send Arnold Eagles into the final.

Both teams gave everything in a game that didn’t warrant a loser.

Well played Ravenshead Reds!👏

Player of the Match went to Goalkeeper Ella!

The U13’s took on Stapleford in the Cup Semi-Final on Sunday.

Manager Nick Grey said “It was a fantastic match with some great defending from both teams. The only goal in the game came from Arnold. The Eagles’ goal came from a corner, which was knocked on from the front post. The ball fell to Lexi at the back post who side footed the ball into the back of the net from close range.”

Player of the Match went to Sophie!

The Eagles take on Newark Town in the cup final! Further details to follow!

The U14’s Lightning, U12’s Hawks and the U11 Fire also played in their respective Cup Semi-Finals on Sunday. With some of the games going to Extra-Time and Penalties, unfortunately all three sides bowed out of the competition after putting in great performances throughout.
