Arnold Eagles under 11 Buzzards v Newark 16/5/21
Away to Newark today on a sunny day with a gentle breeze, with the girls looking to bounce back after last week.
Starting line up was – Sav, Alice, Michele, Ava, Grace, Mala, Evie-Rose
Subs were – Dobbo, Lacey and Millie
The girls started a bit slow and took a few minutes to get in their stride. Beginning to put a few attacks together. Then Sav pulled off a good save but couldn’t hold onto the ball and Newark tapped it into the net. Michele and Alice working hard and making it difficult for Newark to break through.
On 16 minutes the three subs came on – Lacey on for Sav, Dobbo for Alice and Millie for Ava. We played well for the next 10 minutes, Mala and Grace both hitting the post and a couple of half chances for Evie-Rose, neither of which she could manage to turn into goal. Then just before half time Newark increased their lead, giving Lacey no chance.
The second half saw plenty of play between the boxes but very few shots by either team. Ava, on for Evie-Rose, worked tirelessly up front, hassling the Newark defence and unlucky not to get a clear chance. Millie was buzzing about in midfield, tackling, tackling, tackling!! Just approaching 45 minutes a rocket from a Newark player hit the bar, bounced onto the head of Lacey and trickled into the net!
Really strong performance from the girls in the final 15 minutes with Dobbo commanding at the back and Sav playing confidently, back in goal. Mala and Grace had run their socks off up and down the wings, showing some good support play throughout the game. No further goals conceded and that fact delighted the coaches.
Plenty of smiles as they came off the pitch and you couldn’t ask for more commitment. The Newark manager came over and praised the girls for their effort and teamwork.
Player of the Match was Lacey, for some great saves and commanding her area
