Buzzards v Dynamos match report

Playing at our Calverton home this week against a side with some experience. We had four unavailable (3 self-isolating and one away).

Starting line up was: Sav, Freya, Violet, Mala, Mossy and Grace, with Evie-Rose as striker. The sub was Alice. Sav knew she would be in goal for the whole game and Stevogave her some tips during the warm-up.

From the kick off GSB took control and for most of the first 15 minutes we were forced to defend, relying on a couple of breakaways from Evie-Rose. The girls were trying to control the ball and pass to feet but were overwhelmed and outmuscled by a strong GSB side. The pressure had told, inevitably, despite a couple of good saves from Sav.

After a pep talk from Adie the next 15 minutes were totally different. We pressed far more and spent most of our time attacking, with GSB relying on breakaways, comfortably handled by Violet and Alice, supported by all three midfielders, Mossy was everywhere, with Mala and Grace making themselves available down the flanks. Our constant pressure told and a good passing movement down the left saw the ball move from Violet to Mossy to Mala on the edge of the box. She cut inside and she ran past two defenders before placing the ball past the keeper and into the net GOOOOOOOOOOAL!.

We kept pushing for a second, Grace hitting one wide and Evie-Rose close with another effort. The half ended with us on top.

One change for the start of the second half, with Violet coming off for a well-earned break and Freya joining Alice at the back. A quick reminder to Mala and Grace to keep defending as well as attacking. It was an exciting start tothe second half with both sides attacking. Then GSB gained the upper hand with two stunning strikes.

So into the last quarter of the game, with Violet replacing Alice. The girls continued to play our passing game, Freya gaining confidence as she put some good tackles in and was working well with Mala. The effort was immense from all of them, and we still had a couple of chances that Evie-Rose put just wide. Some very tired girls at the final whistle! We had kept our run going – scoring in every game and that team spirit was growing in strength.

A couple of shout outs to Mala scoring her first goal for the team and to Sav, playing the whole game in goal and pulling off some terrific saves.

Player of the Match went to Grace for her work rate and her steady improvement in recent weeks.
