Buzzards Match Review

Hucknall Sports Red Hawks v Under 11 Buzzards 11.10.20

A great day for football as it wasn’t raining!

Today’s starting line-up was:

Katie, Violet, Alice, Mossy, Millie, Erin, Evie-Rose. The subs were Sav, Grace, Mala and Freya. Dobbo was unavailable as she was in a dance show

The first 15 minutes saw Hucknall with more possession and continuously looking dangerous with some excellent passing throughout the team. But we had our moments and Evie-Rose was troubling their back two, managing to get a shot away that bounced back off the post. Violet was having a great game at the back, clearing the ball away several times to our midfield, with Millie like a terrier in the centre. Alice was also on her game with some well-timed tackles. Katie, in her all green kit, was by far the busier keeper and pulled off several good saves. Mossy and Erin, playing as wide midfielders, had some good runs down the flanks, getting the ball into the Hucknall penalty area several times.

Then it was time for a change with all four subs coming on. Sav, in her sky blue kit, quickly into the action, smothering a shot from outside the box. Grace was playing wide on the right and Mala was on the left, with Millie still battling in midfield; Evie-Rose up front. Hucknall maintained good shape throughout the next 15 minutes, passing the ball around well. Millie tackled and tackled and Violet timing her interceptions and clearances well. Freya also doing her bit, putting in a couple of timely tackles.

So at half time the girls came in for a well-earned drink, whilst Adie talked about the positives – some good passing and battling, great saves from Katie and Evie-Rose lively up front. What we needed was to keep our shape better and help each other a bit more. Then it was back for the second half.

We started brightly, immediately putting pressure on the Hucknall defence. The girls seemed to be more determined and they were all trying really hard. We had a couple more shots on target, causing a bit of panic in their goal, but they got the ball away. A couple more good passages of play saw a shot on goal and a melee in their box, the ball like ping pong until Mossy got her toe to it and GOOOOOOAL!

We had the better of the play for the next few minutes and the game really was end to end. Erin received a through ball from Mala and raced in on goal to see her fierce shot saved. Sav was then in the action saving a certain goal with her feet and scrambling a ball off the goal-line. Grace was showing her pace down the right getting a couple of shots away with that fearsome right foot. At the other end Freya and Violet tackled their hearts out.

At full time, plenty of red faces and tired players and plenty of smiles again. OK we lost but we also scored. Shape was good for large parts of the game and the tackling had improved from the previous week. Every one improving their performance from the previous week and doing their very best.

Player of the Match for an outstanding defensive performance went to Violet. Well done!
