Match Report - Under 11 Buzzards v Nottingham Forest White 4.10.20
First game of the season for the newly- formed Buzzards, and plenty of smiles before the match. It was the first competitive match for the girls and here's how they got on.
Starting line up:
Katie in goal, Dobbo and Freya in defence, Mala, Mossy and Erin in midfield and Evie-Rose up top.
Subs - Sav, Violet, Millie, Grace and Alice
They were under pressure from the off but defended superbly for much of the first half, Freya solid in the tackle and Dobbo moving the ball wide at every opportunity. A couple of good runs down the wings from Mala and Erin, with Mossy buzzing around in the middle and laying off good balls to Evie-Rose. In one attack Evie-Rose hit the post, the ball bouncing out of play with the keeper beaten. Time for the subs to have a go with all 5 going on - Sav replacing Katie, Alice for Freya, Violet, Millie and Grace in midfield, keeping Evie-Rose as the striker.

They had all worked very hard but lost their shape a little bit. However, they were always looking to control the ball and put together some nice phases of passing.
So the second half saw us defending well until we lost our shape and concentration for a few minutes and Forest took advantage, dominating play and making us pay! The second half was end to end with us having several more shots on goal, putting Forest under pressure. Still working hard, still passing the ball and some better movement as a result. With a couple of minutes to go Evie-Rose took the ball in her stride, out-pacing a defender, into the box...and bundled over. The ref took his time, it seemed for ages, and then pointed to the spot! 5 girls around the ball and then Evie-Rose got up off the floor, ran over to the ball, made it hers for the penalty. Three paces back, referee's whistle, little back lift and....what a strike above the keeper and into the top of the net. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL. Lots of smiles - our first goal! The girls ended the game on a high, so did the coaches and the parents.
Great game and very entertaining, against a very sporting and talented Forest side.
Player of the Match, for some outstanding saves, went to Katie.
The staff reaction - really delighted with all the girls trying their hardest, doing their best, trying throughout to control and pass the ball and being rewarded with a goal. Plenty of positives and, as always, plenty of work to do. We'll enjoy the week.
Great match day experience and Hucknall Sports away next Sunday.
