2018/19 Team Reviews

Under 8

We have had a really successful year, moving from a swarm of bees at the start, to a cohesive group of team players now. The girls have gelled well, following our 3 Fs rule - Fun, Friendship and Football.

We started the season with 9 players, and with 2 new starters, and one dropping down to play in her age group after playing in u9s, we had 12 in total by the end.

We won more games that we lost, with Holy Spirit and West Bridgford giving us the best games, but Mansfield were also good. The atmosphere among the team, the coaching/secretary, and parents has been brilliant. Parents are very positive and have lots of fun supporting the girls.

Special mention should go to:

1. Grace Bartlett who took on the responsibilities of team Secretary and has done a fabulous job organising all aspects. She has been especially good at bringing about events and communication with parents.

2. Kerry Hilliard who has provided sponsorship for the team kit, parties and tournaments, through her company, Hilliard Civils.

All of the girls have developed brilliantly and they are playing in positions well. A stand-out performance from Harriett saw her score 80 goals - 77 in the league and 3 in the recent tournament. Clio and Faith were solid in defence, while Freya, Cerys and Holly all impressed goalie coach Pete, and developed over the season. Esme and Libby were getting assists galore and both started to score more frequently in the final part of the season. Alia is controlling and passing the ball into space, and the two newest players (both Islas) are catching up quick.Ella has improved her control of the ball while running, and has also started to score plenty of goals.

A very enjoyable season.

Under 9

Since the start of the season the squad has developed a better understanding of the  game and some of the girls have chosen their own position that they are comfortable with, but also are understanding their roles better.

We do our best to get everyone equal playing time, not had any complaints and they all seem to be enjoying themselves.

Training has been a bit difficult at times, had some girls crying out of frustration and then had them arguing amongst each other, last few weeks have been much better and they are listening to coaches more.

The girls all talk to each other and seem to be getting on, they have Go Ape planned as an end of season get together too.

Manager/coach, Becky, recently achieved her FA level 1 coaching badge and will help to develop the squad further.

Under 10 Gold

At the start of the season, the under 10 Gold’s squad had increased to 12 players, with the addition of 2 new players, Zoe and Brooke.  Antony Carr also joined me as coach. The season started well, with more wins than losses and any losses we did have were by 1 or 2 goals. The team were playing very well and scoring a few goals, which were being shared around the team.

In the New Year, fixtures against the better u10 teams, coupled with the loss of influential defender Chloe through injury, meant that the games were not so close and we didn’t win as many, however, the team continued to perform well and another player was added to the squad, a goalkeeper, Thea.

This has overall been a very enjoyable season, the bonding of the players and their parent sociably, is a plus to add to the great togetherness of the team on the pitch. We have had some great social days, including being mascots and taking penalties at half time on the pitch at home games of both Nottingham Forest and Notts County. None of the girls like to miss a match or training and their enthusiasm means that I enjoy my coaching and I am looking forward to working with them again next season.

Under 10 Maroon

Carried on last season’s unbeaten run by winning all our games bar one that we drew.

Top of the division  2nd consecutive season.

Cup winners, beating Nottingham Forest 5-1 in the final.

Aniela & Charlotte both scoring 20+ goals each. Eleanor scored 70+ goals for the season.

Conceded 10 goals all season in league & cup.

Eleanor & Chloe have been approached by RTCs but both decided to stay with Arnold.

Our captain Aniela has decided to leave us to join Notts County for next season. We wish her well.

We are looking to recruit a couple of players and have several girls training with us already.

Under 11

The girls have grown and developed in to a real unit of great footballers and the potential is endless!

Over the season we have scored 62 goals, 9 more than last season and we still have 5 tournaments to play.

We welcomed 2 new players during the season and since the season finished we have welcomed 3 more in to our squad, now at 17.

Every player in the squad has scored a goal except the goalkeeper and one of our newer member to the squad…. But there’s still tournaments to play

We have some very talented footballers in the squad and have often received compliments from opposition about them.

We have played 23 games:

Won 13

Drawn 2

Lost 8

Our biggest score line was 11-0 in the cup against Southwell.

Our best games were played against Priory Celtic, the girls performance was strong, consistent and fantastic to watch. We won both times and all played in the best spirit, with great determination, support and team work shown from everyone.

The first half of the season we scored 49 goals and weren’t challenged enough but it did allow us to practice the basics and implement them. The second half of the season, we played teams from the other division. We scored 12 goals and out of 11 games, we won 4, drew 1 and lost 6 but we still had smiles on our faces and the girls enjoyed the challenge.

All of the girls have worked extremely hard on their skills and understanding of the game. They are also incredibly supportive of each other on an off the field and show fantastic sportsmanship, which I’m very proud of them all for. One example being during a game in which our opposition only had 6 players and after 10 minutes we were 5 goals up. All of the girls offered to play for them so they had 7 and also offered to play 6 aside so it was even teams – not many 10 or 11 year olds would do that!

We’re moving up to 9v9 next season and we’re all ready for the challenge and I am more than happy to stay as the coach for the Super Squad!

Under 12

After a difficult first half of the season where we were relegated to division 2 we have had a great second half of the season. In the league we only lost 1 game winning all the others to take the runners up spot. Then after being knocked out of the cup by Ravenshead we beat them on penalties in the semi finals of the Plate to make the final. Unfortunately we lost 4-0 in the final to a strong Mansfield Town team but still came away with as runners up which was a great achievement. Overall a great season.

A new team this season for Arnold Eagles u14s with Arnold and Blidworth joining together to make up the numbers. Had a great first season together finishing runners up in the winter league. They've been a pleasure to coach this season and with numbers increasing for next season already, I can only see them getting better as a team. Always have good numbers at training and always play with a smile on their faces. The team give 100% on match days and have played some really good football. Already looking forward to next season with this team, hopefully manage to get 2 more players in to complete the squad. Great season girls really proud of the effort and commitment you give to the team.

Under 16

This year the under 16 league started with 11 teams, we played each team once before the league was split into 2 divisions and the cup / plate matches started. Our first match was against Beaufort away, always a “robust” match with very vocal home supporters, we drew 2-2. Following that we played the first of 2 friendlies against GSB U17’s where we beat them 5-0. So far a pretty good start to the season. For the next 9 matches we won 1, drew 1 and lost 7 which put us in 9th position at the end of the first half of the season, although 7 defeats isn’t a great record, most of them were close matches and I felt we were only really badly defeated by 1 team (Ilkeston Town 5-0).

For the second half of the season the league decided to split the 11 teams into 2 divisions of the top 7 teams & the bottom 4 teams. We played our first match against Beaufort and beat them 2-1, however they then withdrew from the league and we lost our first 3 points. We played Bingham & Woodlands twice beating Bingham both times and Woodlands once to finish on 9 points to win the division. Our final match of the season was away at Woodlands, both teams only had 11 players and every time one team scored the other would equalise soon after. The score was 6-6 in the 79th minute with Woodlands scoring their 7th goal just before the final whistle.

A great bunch of players to work with!

Women Gold

Since the beginning of the season the team has come a long way, with a tough start and  having some unlucky results and tough battles on the field it seemed to affect the girls. Unfortunately it would result in heads dropping, and them just acccepting that the game was lost and they seemed to take it on the chin and just accept that they would lose yet another game! It was later in the season when the Golds had a big turn around and became the team we all knew was there.

With a few added changes of players and a new player/manager, with some experienced players coming in the girls had there spark back and we started to see some strong positive results and brilliant performances on the pitch each week. The character the team has shown and the way the girls gelled as a team was now letting them battle together and play the football we knew that could be played and most importantly the girls were now showing how much they enjoyed football again. It was great to see such a lovely bunch playing with smiles on their faces again. They finished off the 2018/2019 season in the Blue league as champions and were unbeaten in all Blue league games, and also got to the Plate semi-finals. The Golds look to build on these performances and look forward to the new season ahead.
