Match Report | Date: 20 June 2021 / Venue: Heanor Football Club Arnold Eagles Hawks u11s vs Heanor Tornados u11s Today’s starting line-up was: Ava (GK), Thea, Izzy, Heidi, Lucy, Bethany & MIllie. Subs: Jess & Peyton So, here we were at the final game of the season, after what has been a very unpredictable and long journey; not too dissimilar to the drive over to Heanor.
Playing on a pitch which had seen better days, the Hawks didn’t let that put them off, with some impressive link up play between today’s midfielders Heidi, Mille and Bethany. Any early counter-attackers from their hoof it and run approach was dealt with calmly by Thea and Izzy, who threaded the ball through to our midfield on more than one occasion. In addition to that, any long balls that found their way past the Hawks defence were dealt with swiftly by Ava, who kindly agreed to play in goal for the whole match.
It was a different Hawks side compared to the previous return fixture, where they appeared intimidated by the opposition giving them an unlikely win. Not this time however, with all girls giving as good as they got, battling well in midfield and Lucy dropping deep to offer support. After what seemed like countless corners and shots either flashing wide and over the bar.
15mins in saw Jess and Peyton come on to maintain the good effort put in by their counterparts. They didn’t disappoint with Jess making some confident passes back into defence, as well as some confident running down the right hand side. Peyton was bossing the centre of midfield again, ensuring that none of the Heanor attacks mounted to anything.
Ava continued into the second half in goal, with the threat of some downwind shots being imposed by Heanor’s big kicking. The Hawks continued to dominate, with wave after wave of attack, but shots were either snuffed out or corners dealt with well by their defence. Lucy and Heidi were having a great game, with their link up play paying off once again. Heanor however, were down but not out, as they came back strong, almost scoring on a couple of occasions. Their number six thought she had scored with a great shot, only for Ava to palm it wide with two strong hands. Heanor’s pressure eventually paid off, when they got behind the Hawks defence giving Ava little chance of keeping it out. More saves came shortly after, together with a goal line clearance by the Hawk’s goalie!
Further substitutions came giving some of the girls a well-earned rest and ensuring they were able to all play their part in this season’s final game.
At the final whistle, it was three cheers to opposition, with the Hawks closing the final game out very well. Overall, the match; much like the season as a whole was up and down in places, but completely under control for the most part! Well done Hawks and onto 9 a side next season!
Player of the Match for an excellent performance went to Ava. Well done! |
