Arnold Eagles Hawks u11s vs Lowdham Colts u11s

Today’s starting line-up was:

Katie (GK), Thea, Izzy, Ava, Heidi, Lucy & MIllie. Subs:Jess, Peyton & Bethany

From the whistle, the Hawks put Lowdham under immediate pressure, pinning them into their half of the pitch. Thea and Izzy looked to be back to their assured and confident selves; quickly diffusing any threat from Lowdham. The Hawkshowever, spurned some early chances to score, following some fantastic movement and passing.

Lucy, Heidi and Ava were having a good start to the game, with Ava trying her best to take control of the centre of the pitch. Lucy and Heidi had the beating of their defenders, but couldn’t get that final ball into Millie. 15mins saw a pre-arranged water break, giving Jess, Peyton and Bethany chance to refresh the midfield. Fresh legs definitely made a difference, as the Hawks pushed forward, but despite their efforts, with Jess and Bethany’s good work on the wings, Peyton and Millie’s shots couldn’t find their way past the Lowdham keeper.

Katie had little else to do as the first half ended, owing to Thea and Izzy’s solid performance at the back.

A change of keeper saw Ava replace Katie for the second half, with Ava hopeful to keep the Lowdham attacks to a minimum. Ava did this with ease, nullifying any Lowdham attack, which were few and far between. Millie came off at half time, giving Lucy a shot as striker, with her linking up well with Jess and Bethany; but again couldn’t make it count. Hawks chance then came when Bethany took the bull by the horns, dancing past her defender and slotting it inside the keeper’s near post.

Further substitutions then came giving some of the girls a well-earned rest. Lucy and Bethany came off to allow Millie back up top and Heidi on the wing. The pressure from this point in particular was relentless from the Hawks, on some occasions finding themselves 4 on 2 and 4 on 1. These chances didn’t come to anything, as the shots were well stopped by their keeper.

The last five minutes saw Bethany replace Peyton who had run her socks off.

At the final whistle, it was three cheers to Lowdham, with the Hawks closing the game out very well. Overall, It was a very positive display, with all girls showing increased levels of confidence as the season draws to a close. One match to go!
