Women’s First Team Vs Dronfield ladies FC FAW Q1

FA cup fever reached Eagle Valley today as Arnold Town Ladies hosted Dronfield Ladies in a 1st round qualifier. Having lost in mid week Arnold started brightly and were ahead within 3 minutes, as Molly Parker raced through the back line before lifting the ball over the on rushing keeper 1-0.

Playing some of the best football seen by an Arnold Ladies team for a while, they were unable to turn possession into goals as numerous half chances went missing. It is so important to get the second goal when on top but unfortuantely it wasnt happening in front of goal. With a rare attack by Dronfield, they countered well and picked up a free kick by the touchline in Arnolds half. A bit of pin ball followed before the ball was crisply struck through a crowd of players and past the driving Ellie Roache to equilise 1-1.

With a hot day and hard pitch, tiredness and blisters were starting to take its toll in the second half but the work rate by both sets of players never faulted. Whilst Arnold can argue that they had the better of the chances, the away team knew that one goal regardless of how it came could be enough to seal their passage into the next round.

With only seconds left on the clock before extra time beckoned, the Skip, Jenny Lorimer let fly from 30 yards and wheeled away in celebration as her effort found the far top corner to steal the win.

Great start to the season, a really good all round team effort and lets hope the players take this form in to next weeks away v Grimsby Borough.
